April 29: Catholic Home Missions Appeal
Fr. Eric Away
Fr. Eric will be away from April 30 through May 10, so there will not be weekday Masses during this timeframe.
Ministry to our “Shut-Ins”
If you are a Eucharistic Minister who no longer has a “shut-in” to visit, please see Fr. Eric. We have a couple of people who are now in need of receiving visits.
Please Allow Fr. Eric to Check Vestibule Literature
It is not uncommon for well-meaning people to receive various Catholic booklets and pamphlets in the mail and place them in the vestibule. Most of such literature is fine, but some of it only has the appearance of being properly orthodox while the actual intention is to make unjust criticisms of Catholic doctrine, liturgy or the papacy. For example, The Fatima Crusader accuses Pope Blessed John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI of negligence, and the priest who started the The Fatima Crusader actually had his priestly faculties suspended by Rome. In light of this, please do not place any Catholic literature you receive in the mail on the vestibule tables unless you first check them with Fr. Eric. Literature which is automatically considered approved is Our Sunday Visitor, Magnificat, Catholic Digest, The Word Among Us, The New Oxford Review, The Southern Cross (obviously), and the National Catholic Register (but not the National Catholic Reporter).
Bishop’s Annual Appeal
This year’s theme is “Let Us Build Up the Church Together.” Immaculate Conception Church’s target goal is $12,372. As of April 24, 26 of our parish’s households have pledged a total of $11,906, so we only need $466 in pledges to make our goal! We greatly appreciate everyone who has made a pledge to the B.A.A. and encourage everyone else to prayerfully consider doing so. Extra pledge cards / envelopes are available in the church vestibule.
Capital Campaign for Repairs & Refurbishing
As of April 26, 109 of our parish’s households have pledged $37,535, of which we have collected 15,962. As a reminder, although we are still looking at bids (and have not settled on a total figure yet), we are looking at an expense in the possible range of forty to fifty thousand dollars. The purpose of this capital campaign is to repair and refurbish our church property, which includes restoring the church doors, tabby, painting projects, and replacing the roofs on our various buildings. We greatly appreciate all the pledges and donations that have been sent in so far! We ask that people who have not yet made a pledge prayerfully consider doing so. There are white pledge cards and yellow donation envelops in the vestibule of the church. These can be filled out and mailed to the church office, or simply dropped in the collection basket on any given Sunday.
Tuesday Mass Schedule
Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, Tuesday Masses will be postponed starting in May until further notice. For those who are interested, at St. John Vianney Church (425 South MacArthur Drive, Camilla) there is a 10:30 am Mass each Wednesday (except for when Fr. Eric is out-of-town).
Would You Like to Give Some Input?
Do you have questions, concerns, suggestions, critiques, etc. concerning our parish and/or the ministries we provide? If so, please feel free to address the Parish Council at a regularly scheduled council meeting, or speak privately with Fr. Eric (call 985-6550 and leave a message for him to return your call if he is not there). The next Parish Council meeting will be April 24 at 7:00 p.m. (in the Parish Center). We want everyone to feel that this is a parish where input is welcomed and voices are heard.
Vocations Prayer for our Diocese
O God, hear my prayer, and let my cry come unto you. Bless our Diocese of Savannah with many priestly and religious vocations. Give the men and women you call the light to understand your gift and the love to follow always in the footsteps of your priestly Son. Amen.
