The Parish Council Meeting was called to order by Father Eric Filmer on Monday, December 15, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Fr. Eric opened the meeting with the Holy Spirit prayer. Minutes were reviewed for corrections and were approved.
ATTENDANCE: Mike Fuches, Phyllis Fuches, Andrew Ericksen, Sandy Ghelarducci, Joe Sumner, Brian Rollock, Joseph Rodriguez, Fr. Eric Filmer, Richard Fetterman, and Mary Walsh.
OLD BUSINESS
- Stained Glass Windows - Father Eric has mailed the details of all the Saints for each window. Contractor plans to make another visit to see the Church.
- Shadow Box - Is still pending installation of glass and the items of Barbara Duffy.
- Thanksgiving Day Bake Sale - Mary Walsh said to date $1,602.00 has been received for the Bake Sale. People are still making donations. Expenses for the Bake Sale of approximately $300 has to be deducted. Father Eric said he will pay $25 for another Hummingbird Cake for Christmas.
- Replacement of Light Bulbs in Church - Mary Walsh stated Phil always changed the lights himself. It was decided to hire a professional to change out the lights since chandeliers are so high. Joe Sumner will ask Isaac Paulk if he could do it or if he would recommend another electrician if he cannot change light bulbs.
- Fr. Eric said the celebration of Guadalupe went very well. The march began downtown and ended at the Church. The event was published in the Moultrie Observer and the Southern Cross. Had good food and fellowship at the Parish Supper after the Mass for the Lady of Immaculate Conception.
- Fr. Eric mentioned he still has to submit a drawing of the tabernacle shelf to the Diocese for approval. It will probably be after Christmas.
NEW BUSINESS
- Christmas decorations of the Church were discussed. Announcement will be made in the bulletin asking for volunteers to help decorate the Church on Sunday, December 21, after the afternoon Mass. Decorations need to be completed by 6:00 p.m. Mary Hansen will be making arrangements for the windows. Mary Walsh said Poinsettias have been ordered. Tree lights may have to be purchased.
- There will be an 8:30 p.m. Mass on Christmas Eve and another at midnight.
- Phyllis Fuches will be putting up guidelines in English and Spanish for cleaning up the kitchen in the Walsh Hall after each event.
- Andrew Ericksen said votive candles need to be purchased.
- Spaghetti Supper - Council agreed to increase tickets to $7.00 each. Also, discussed having Parish ladies make about 10 cakes to sell for $25 each at the Spaghetti Supper.
- Father mentioned he is contemplating about changing the Sunday English Mass to 10:00 a.m. and the Hispanic Mass to 12:30 p.m. This change may increase the Mass attendance. If this happens, he will make the changes after CCD classes have ended for the Summer.
- It was discussed that Richard and Joseph need to sure to communicate with the Parish Collection Counters in order for Joseph to list the total of the weekly collections and expenses in the bulletin.
- Billy Price asked about having the television in the Walsh Hall wired to cover the Hispanic Mass for when there is an overflow of people for the Hispanic Mass. A camera on a tripod placed in the Church to focus on the front will be needed. Andrew asked if the projector could be used. Father said Brian has ideas and possibilities for this. Father said the Bishop has already given his permission to do this.
- Mary Walsh gave a report on the Ladies Guild:
- Two boxes of items were mailed to the troops in Iraq.
- Received a letter and tape of a beautiful song, "Christmas in Iraq" from troops.
- Mailed a box to Mary Lou Ryan’s grandson, Michael Ryan, in Afghanistan.
- Gave $32 worth of food to the Serenity House.
- Sponsored an 11 year-old boy out of 71 children from abusive situations through the District Attorney's office, the Child Advocacy Group. Will give him gifts for Christmas. Ann Norman Trust Fund will be donating a bicycle to each child.
- Fr. Thomas Furegafy from Poland is the seminarian that the Ladies Guild will be sponsoring. They gave him a donation of $100.
- Donated $50 to a parishioner in need.
- 25 ladies have paid dues to date.
- Will be giving a donation in honor of Father Eric, Phil Walsh, and Richard Fetterman to a religious organization.
- Richard Fetterman gave the Financial Report. Ahead in checking account by $3000. Have $1200 from Bake Sale after expenses are deducted. He stated that $16,199 was in checking account and $10,092 in Savings. For the year, we are little bit down on operating, but not much.
Having no further business, the meeting was adjourned around 8:30 p.m. Next meeting is scheduled on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. Fr. Eric closed the meeting with a prayer.
