Parish Council Minutes
October 13th, 2009
The Parish Council Meeting was called to order by Father Eric Filmer on Monday, October 13, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Fr. Eric opened the meeting with the Holy Spirit prayer. Minutes were reviewed for corrections and were approved.
ATTENDANCE: Mike Fuches, Phyllis Fuches, Sandy Ghelarducci, Joe Sumner, Brian Rollock, Father Eric Filmer, Richard Fetterman, and Mary Walsh.
OLD BUSINESS
- Joe Sumner plans to talk to the Ericksen’s about what cleaner to use on the Statue of Mary. He plans to straighten up and clean the statue at the same time. Joe stated he may have to put a floating foundation under the statue.
- Stained Windows - We have received the proposed contract signed by
Celia Heningman for review. Contract also includes contractor’s
insurance.
Contract includes a one-third deposit ($15,725) before beginning work. A second one-third payment will be made during the process. Last one-third payment will be made upon completion of work. The total of work will be $47,175 for ten saints and the two transoms over the doors.
Memorials from Parishioners can be in English and Spanish. Father Eric will distribute holy cards to the people making donations for the stained glass windows to see whether or not they want a standard image of the saints as depicted on the holy cards. Contractor will draw a full size image of each saint on paper for committee to review. Another trip will need to be made to review images before work begins.
Council members agreed to sign contract and submit first payment. - Ladies of the Parish need to see the size of the shadow box made for memorabilia of Barbara Duffy to determine what to put in it.
- Father Eric will be doing a drawing for the Bishop’s approval of where the tabernacle will be placed in front of the altar.
- The October Parish picnic was a great success. Had many parishioners attend and the food was great.
- Gartland Service Award - Mark Russell and Luz Cooper have accepted
the nomination for the Gartland Service Award. Pictures and paperwork
have being submitted to the Diocese.
A special Mass with the Bishop in Savannah will be in November for each of them to receive the award. Father Eric proposed that the Parish, if needed, should assist the nominees who cannot afford the gas and/or hotel in making this trip to Savannah. - The changes in the Mass schedule are in place. There is now a 12:15
p.m. Mass on Tuesdays and a 6:00 p.m. Mass on Thursdays. The attendance
of the Thursday Mass has increased in the last two weeks since these
changes.
The Sunday 2:45 p.m. the Hispanic Mass has been canceled because of health reasons of Father Eric. The Spanish Mass in Camilla will continue to be on Saturday. The 11:30 a.m. Sunday Hispanic Mass has not changed.
The Youth have stressed they would like for Father Eric to participate more with them. There is about 100 kids involved in CCD and the Confirmations.
Father Eric will continue to be on-call during his time-off on Sunday evenings and Mondays.
NEW BUSINESS
- Gina-Marie and Brian Rollock have made a new website for the Parish.
- Election of Officers of the Council were voted:
- Mike Fuches will remain President.
- Brian Rollock, Vice-President.
- Phyllis Fuches will remain Secretary.
- Ladies Guild met on October 1. They are in the process of collecting dues. Along with their regular activities, Margaret Ericksen will ask Matthew if he can get a seminarian in training for Ladies Guild to sponsor. Also, plans are to send a goody box to Mary Lou Ryan’s grandson in Iraq.
- Richard Fetterman gave the Financial Report. Expenditures are breaking even with the collections received for the year. Checking account has $35,960 and $10,270 in Savings. Will need to raise more funds for the Stained Glass Windows, if necessary, through a second collection.
Having no further business, the meeting was adjourned around 8:30 p.m. Because of upcoming appointments, the next meeting will be Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Fr. Eric closed the meeting with a prayer.
